I had a minor roof issue (chimney flashing) and was looking for an experienced roofing contractor to do the repair right. I found WDR of Austin. They are spoken highly of here on Yelp, and on my local NextDoor. I called, immediately got a person who took my info, and had Tyler Lawson call me back. Tyler and I had a quick phone chat, and 24 hours later, Tyler and Coby are on my roof checking it out at my request. These guys beat me to my house, and called me while I was still on my way to let me they were just going to go ahead and just take care of the repair real quick, no charge, as it turned out to be a simple fix. Once I arrived, Tyler, Coby, and I chatted for a bit. These guys did NOT try to pressure me or use scare tactics to get me into a new roof. The simply pointed out a couple of minor issues on my roof to keep an eye on, and they touched up a few spots with a caulk gun where it was needed. Couldn't have asked for better experience. I was expecting an expensive repair bill. Great service, and nice guys. Definitely my go-to guys for any future roofing issues! -Chris
Prompt service, reasonable prices that my insurance had no problem paying for. The technician came on time, which is quite important when you're a busy landlord. I would use them again though I hope I will never have to!!
This is my third time interfacing with Lucky Shaw and WDR and R, and I'm finally writing a well-deserved review, in case the other 117 reviews weren't enough to prove that they are the only roofers you will ever need. I referred him out a few times, based on reviews, but it was finally my turn to call him. I noticed evidence of water penetration on my upstairs ceiling. There was only one call I needed to make. Lucky was out asap and knew exactly what needed to be done. He gave me my options and I filed a claim with my insurance company. He even helped me interface with the insurance company, because we all know how saying one wrong word can void a coverage, or at least that's how it feels sometimes. I really didn't have to figure anything out on my own. Lucky took care of everything. New roof, new fascia, new paint, new gutters. Every aspect of the deal was handled with communication, respect, and honesty. I really can't say enough awesome things about Lucky and this company. They are very knowledgable and resourceful. Thanks y'all!
Overall: I went with these guys for a shingle roof replacement. The quality and the timeliness of the job, the integrity and accessibility of Brad, the owner, as well as the reliability of the estimated price was excellent. Better than I would have expected from a much pricier company. I feel like I got much more than I paid for. I requested an estimate from Brad and one other company. Not only did Brad's estimate beat the other by thousands of dollars, but was also an accurate estimate. My final bill was for the exact price of the estimate, and the other company said they would have charged me extra for odds and ends. Brad sent me an itemized quote with a guaranteed price (provided, of course, the description or size of the job didn't change). There was a good sized crew of 4-6 who showed up as I was leaving for work. By the time I got back home, they we're gone and the roof was done! I'm not a roofing expert, but I went up the next day to see if everything looked right. I could tell they had replaced all the parts of the decking that had rotted. They installed good-sized vents on the peaks. The shingles we're name-brand and heavy-duty, and the spacing looks nice. My house looks noticeably better from the curb now.
The new roof is beautifully crafted and I received many compliments from neighbors, even I could tell the crew was very proud when they looked up the new roof as they were leaving. Brad made sure I received the roof material and color I wanted, he even gave me a material upgrade because he thought I needed it because of wind condition in my area. When I was concerned about whether my gutter was clean, Brad made sure the crew cleaned it well and took pictures to show me. That is how well Brad took care of his customers, he really wants to make his customers happy. Brad and his company resolutely earned my A+++++ rating for service and quality.
A++ for communication and quality of work! J.P. Was very helpful and detailed with what all needed to be down to extract the water and dry the wet areas in my house. The company helped my family out by explaining how insurance companies work when dealing with water lose
We had a roof leak that dripped into one of our walls and onto the floor of one of our bedrooms. When we noticed water damage and mold on the floor, we called this company, along with several others. JP came out quickly and brought his moisture meter, and he was able to determine where in the room had gotten wet. He gave a competitive estimate to remove the baseboards, pull up the damaged floor, cut out the damaged drywall, wipe everything down with disinfectant, and ventilate and dehumidify the room to dry it out. I picked this company to do the job, and JP and his crew came by promptly as scheduled and did great work! The room is now ready to have the drywall patched and new flooring installed. Although I didn't end up using this company for the roofing portion of the job, Lucky, who came out to do the estimate, was thorough and professional, and his estimate was very reasonable. Recommended!
Our 10 day old house was flooded by a rogue washer in our laundry room that leaked out into our kitchen and foyer. JP and team showed up, assessed the situation, and didn't try to upsell me- quite the contrary; JP gave me real, honest advice. I didn't have to think twice, or consider calling in a second opinion. JP got to work immediately, and kept the house clean throughout the entire process of ripping out the baseboards, and lifting carpet. The fans and dehumidifier were set up in no time! I could not ask for a better experience when having to deal with something so tragic to our new house. Save yourself the time and energy of shopping around. Use this team!
No words can express how lucky I was to trust yelp and pick this company when I didn't know where to turn. I had water coming out of my baseboards and JP came in, assessed the issue and explained everything that needed to happen to restore my home. He was honest, thorough and returned my calls promptly. I can't thank him and his team enough. I also had a roofing issue. JP referred me to Brad Farr, the roofing side of the business. I was dealing with insurance companies and It felt like Brad swooped in and took care of everything like a super hero! He is extremely honest, follows through with what he says and will fight for you to make sure you get what you need from the insurance company. Thanks to him I now have a new roof and less to be worried about. I can't thank him and his team enough. It's hard to find honest people who follow through. Choose them and see for yourself how awesome they are!!
We own a very old ("classic"?) home that had some water stains appear in the ceiling after some heavy rain. We called WDR and Tyler helped us every single step of the way dealing with our insurance company to give us the best chance of getting the damage covered. Thanks to Tyler's navigation and advice we ended up getting the roof replaced entirely, completely covered by insurance. The repair was completed in a timely manner and the workmanship was top notch. We have a low sloped portion of our roof, and Tyler was professional enough to suggest the correct material for the surface even though it would cost him more money and cut in on his margin. The best part of this process was that at any step of the way, I could text Tyler with any questions or scheduling concerns. He truly went above and beyond to make sure that I understood exactly what we were doing and why. With his vast experience dealing with insurance companies, his knowledge and advice on dealing with them was absolutely irreplaceable. He made a situation that could have caused a lot of headache into one that was manageable. tl;dr - if you want a roofer that is honest, straightforward, communicative, and does great work, go with WDR and you'll thank yourself later several times over.
I called Brad at Water Damage Restoration after seeing the reviews on yelp. I was in the last few days of the option period on the sale of my home - and needed a new roof ASAP. Brad was VERY knowledgeable, and offered to help me dispute with the insurance company who was refusing to cover the hail damage. I had 5 other roofers provide estimates on the roof and Brad's estimate was literally 1/2 of some of them. He had the roof done within 3 or 4 days at a more than reasonable price. Working with Water Damage Restoration was a breath of fresh air- they're not trying to take advantage of you because of your zip code or neighborhood - I was treated honestly and fairly. 100% recommend anyone call these guys for an estimate.
Coby and team replaced my roof and I couldn't be more pleased. He was super easy to work with, had good availability, and the team did the job quickly. They also did a great job cleaning up afterwards. Most of all, he made all of the insurance claim part of it a breeze! I would recommend them to anyone!
WDR was the first place that took our call when I discovered some roof damage. Coby did a great job of answering any questions I had and made sure the work was done to my and his satisfaction. WDR were out fast to review and helped to ensure that our damage was noted correctly. They did great work on the roof and made sure everything was up to my satisfaction. We also had them install new fascia and gutters, they did a great job! The site was left vert clean so my dogs wouldn't get injured or step on debris. They went above and beyond to make sure that we were satisfied with the work. I highly recommend them for any large roofing projects that you need to get done!
This review is long overdue but necessary. Brad and JP are awesome! Highly recommend both of them for quality services and excellent customer service. Great communication, prompt service, and knowledgeable people. I had some fairly large water leaks from improper roof construction in a brand new home. JP came to dry the place out within 2 hours of my calling. They set up quickly and got the process going to dry the place out. Although my roof was under warranty, Brad came out and gave his opinion of my roof as I did not feel I was getting an honest story from my builder. He provided me some pictures and some important questions to ask the builder. In the end, the builder ended up agreeing with Brad's opinion and if not for him, I'm pretty confident I would have had additional problems. Big thanks to both of them!
I can't say enough good things about Water Damage Restoration. Colby is incredibly responsive and helped walk us through the process of roof replacement, keeping us informed throughout the way. He was very patient with our HOA approval process and so polite. We are even using them for some painting and additional home improvement projects. We would HIGHLY recommend them!
Brad and JP have been great to work with. They were courteous, quick and efficient. Their prices were reasonable. I was so stressed out about getting my roof replaced or a bathroom leak that I'm glad they were there to guide me and get the job done.
So here I am writing another review.......mostly because i found Lucky Shaw and Water Damage Restoration and Roofing of Austin here and based on the other excellant reviews decided to check them out. We needed a whole new roof and I actually got about 8 or 9 estimates from different contractors. What I liked about Lucky was his low-key approach to sales, no high pressure or anything like that just solid info. I could not be happier with the excellant quality of the work and crew, just first class all the way! Highly recommend!
This place is GREAT! I called them out to look at my roof and the owner showed up, climbed around for 20 minutes, came down and told me it was in fabulous shape and had many good years ahead of it. Wow, such honesty in the roofing business is refreshing!
Water Damage Restoration and Roofing's Brad Farr was one of the most accessible home repair owners I have ever worked with. He met my insurance adjuster and went over the damage from storm water inside the home and was up on the roof determining that we needed a new roof. JP was able to dry out the inside wall and was extremely informative. Jacob repaired the wall that was damaged and was a true craftsman. Brad's roofing team attacked my roof and completed the job in 2 days. They did an outstanding beautiful job. I can't say enough about this team. They are a truly well oiled machine.
After DirecTV moved their dishes (due to tree blockage), I noticed a visible sagging in the roof where the old dishes were. Regrettably, they didn't say anything, but it's almost as if a knee when through the decking. The shingles help up, but nice ~4" diameter hole was in the decking under those shingles. I sent pictures to Brad and he provided a quote over email and had his team about two days later. They did an exceptional job replacing the decking and perfectly matching the new shingle color. The price paid almost seemed too low for the time and materials used. The decking had special shielding and water barriers and they cut a very nice square piece of decking out much larger than the hole to ensure a clean installation. Afterwards, I asked if he saw any other roof issues. They had already packed up their ladders, but without hesitation he offered to go up and walk the entire roof. He found a couple loose shingles and removed them and pointed out some granular wear, but he said given the age (9 years) that the roof was solid and showed appropriate standard wear. He could've easily used scare tactics but he put my mind at ease. It was a very nice and honest gesture. I highly recommend Water Damage Restoration and Roofing, they're an honest outfit that does quality work!

    History
    Established in 2012.
After 20+ years of experience we started the company based on treating the customers as we would like to be treated. In the age of internet and reviews all things would work themselves out if we could just stick to that core value. We have been blessed with a business that prospers more and more every year.

Coby, Tyler and I are blessed by having a business that prospers off of reviews that are generated from treating each customer as the way we would hope to be treated. In a industry that seemingly has no moral conscious of right from wrong, especially with insurance work, we work very hard at maintaining not what is the most profitable but instead what is most considerable for each customer independently. With the addition of our two project managers, JP and Lucky, things have really come together. The rest always works itself out... Restoration Brothers Brentwood blessed!

  • If you are in need of water damage restoration, whether it takes place in your home or place of business, it can be difficult to deal with. Even if you have insurance coverage, there are several steps that need to be taken before you can begin the process of filing a claim. However, there are some companies that will help you and even work with the insurance company to make sure that the claim is filed as quickly as possible.
    Think About Safety
When it comes to the safety of you, your family, employees and customers, there is nothing more important. If this is a flood and the situation is progressively getting worse, you may need to make sure that everyone evacuates the area. This is first and foremost. Even though the water damage restoration can be costly as well as frustrating, there is no reason to take the chance and risk anyone's life.
    Stop
Whatever the source of the problem, see if you can get it to stop. You don't want the issue to progress, so if you can, turn off the source and see if that prevents more liquid from getting into the home or office. In the case of a flood, this isn't going to be possible. However, you may want to see if you can cut off the electricity to the area just to prevent more of an issue. This will make it easier for a water damage restoration company to come in and begin working.
    Call for Assistance
Make a phone call to your insurance company to let them know what has happened. Provide as much information that you can about what happened and give them some idea of the extent of the problems. Next, be sure to call a water damage restoration company as soon as a you can. Many companies will be able to work directly with your insurance company, making the entire process easier for you.
At this point, you will need to coordinate the effort and make sure that you are keeping up with all that is going on. Save all of the paperwork and keep track of the expenses as they begin to add up. You may need to be the middle man and make sure that both companies are on the same page.
Depending on the extent of the problem, you may even need to find another place to live or work until things get under control. Again, throughout the process, be sure to save your receipts and keep track of all that is happening. You will need to have these items when it comes time to file your insurance claim.
One the water damage restoration claim is opened, that doesn't mean that your check will be in the mail. It will take time to put everything together, calculate the cost and figure out what you owe versus what you are going to receive. During this time
, feel free to talk to your insurance agent regularly to make sure that you know where you are in the process.

  • Sun Exposure - How Does It Effect Your Skin
Sun exposure, once upon a time, was considered to be a healthy benefit of any outdoor activity. And sunlight does have an important role to play in the efficient functioning of skin cells and the healthy growth of our bodies. However, the ill-effects of the ultraviolet radiations of the sun outweigh the benefits of sunlight and make it necessary for us to protect our skin against sun exposure.
    UV Radiations of the Sun
Sunlight consists of a broad spectrum of high frequency ultraviolet rays - UVA and UVB radiation that penetrate through the skin surface and cause intrinsic damage within the skin cells. Visible signs of sun damage include tanning, development of freckles and sunburns. Apart from this, the UV radiations also cause intrinsic damage in the long run that results in development of wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, and sagging skin. Although the body's defense system is able to repair the external damage, the internal damage builds up over the years and leads to premature aging and in severe cases is also known to cause skin cancer.
    Protection against Sun Exposure
Sun protection is a lifelong process that begins at infancy and should be continued throughout life. Research states that we get about 80 per cent of the total lifetime sun exposure in the first 18 years of our lives. This is why it is important to protect the skin against sun exposure right from the childhood so that there are no aftereffects later in life.
Here are some tips to protect your skin against sunlight this summer.
    Wear a Broad Spectrum Sunscreen
Sunlight consists of three types of rays - UVA, UVB and UVC, out of which the UVC rays are the most powerful and damaging. But fortunately, UVC rays are absorbed by the ozone layer and thus do not reach. However, our skin needs to be protected against the UVA and UVB rays of the sunlight. Therefore, wear a sunscreen that offers broad spectrum sunscreen protection and protects against the UVA as well as the UVB rays. Here are some tips to choosing an effective sunscreen.
The sunscreen should contain ingredients like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide that reflect off the UV rays of the sun.
Consider the SPF amount of the sunscreen. Use at least an SPF 30 sunscreen. The SPF of the sunscreen should be high enough to keep your skin protected against the sunlight for a long period of time. An SPF 30 sunscreen filters 96.7% of the UVB rays.
    Consider the Sunscreen SPF
If your extend of exposure to sunlight is very limited like when you are running errands, walking to the car etc., then an SPF 15 sunscreen should be enough for you. However, if you need to spend longer amounts of time in the sunlight like when you are exercising, mowing the lawn or playing, then you would need at least an SPF 30 sunscreen. Moreover, if you have extremely fair skin then you should consider using an SPF 50 sunscreen that offers about 99 per cent sun protection. This is because fair skinned people lack melanin and are highly sensitized to the sun rays. An SPF 50 sunscreen is also recommended for people who are taking medications that increase the skin's susceptibility to sunburns or have a medical history of skin cancer in the family.
    Expiration Dates of Sunscreens
First of all, don't use sunscreens (or any skin care product) that is past their expiration dates. Check your sunscreen bottle or tube for its expiry period and immediately throw them away if they are past their prime. If there is no expiration period mentioned, then it is advisable to dispose of sunscreens after a year. Also, make sure you store your sunscreen in a cool dark place so that they don't lose their efficiency and last longer.
    Use Enough Amount of Sunscreens
One of the most common mistakes people make while using sunscreens that render them ineffective is that they don't use enough. Ideally, take an ounce of the sunscreen, about the amount of a shot glass and slather it all over the exposed areas of your body. Remember, if you are not applying a thick layer, it would not protect the skin against sunlight. Also, make sure Restoration Brothers Brentwood reapply after every 2 hours, especially if you are swimming or have been sweating a lot. Look for water proof or water-resistant sunscreens. Waterproof sunscreens guarantee 80 minutes of protection while water-resistant sunscreens provide only 40 minutes of protection.

  • Water & Your Masonry Chimney
The chimney is one of the most taken-for-granted parts of a home. Typically it tends to receive neither the attention nor the concern usually accorded other household service systems. The fact that chimneys may do their job reasonably well, even when abused or neglected, contributes to this atmosphere of indifference.
Chimneys are far from the passive black holes that most people assume them to be. They perform several vital functions, and their simple appearance misrepresents their complex construction and performance requirements. A chimney deteriorated by constant exposure to the weather can be a potential safety hazard. Weather-damaged lining systems, flue obstructions and loose masonry materials all present a threat to residents. Regular chimney maintenance is essential to prevent damage, deterioration and future high-cost chimney repairs.
    Masonry Chimneys
A masonry chimney is constructed of a variety of masonry and metal materials, including brick, mortar, concrete, concrete block, stone, flue tile, steel and cast iron. flood damage restoration brentwood contain combinations of, or possibly all of, these materials, most of which are adversely affected by direct contact with water or water penetration.
    Water Penetration
All masonry chimney construction materials, except stone, will suffer accelerated deterioration as a result of prolonged contact with water. Masonry materials deteriorate quickly when exposed to the freeze/thaw process, in which moisture that has penetrated the materials periodically freezes and expands causing undue stress. Water in the chimney also causes rust in steel and cast iron, weakening or destroying the metal parts.
Note: While most stone is not affected by water penetration, large amounts of mortar are required to bond the stone together properly. Therefore, a stone chimney - just like a brick chimney - should be protected from the effects of water penetration.
Water penetration can cause interior and exterior damage to your home and masonry chimney including:
    Rusted damper assemblies
Rotting adjacent wood and ruined wall coverings
    Water stained walls and ceiling
    Clogged clean out area
    Deteriorated central heating system
    Collapsed hearth support
    Chimney settlement

    Preventing Water Damage
Chimney caps, also called rain covers, are probably the most inexpensive preventive measure that a homeowner can employ to prevent water penetration and damage to the chimney. Chimney caps have long been recognized as an important chimney safety and damage prevention component. Underwriters Laboratories (UL) specifies that any chimney lining system that is to be listed to their test standard must include a chimney cap.
Chimneys have one or more large openings (flues) at the top that can collect rainwater and funnel it directly to the chimney interior. A commonly-sized flue has the potential to allow large amounts of rain or snow into the chimney during just one winter when freeze/thaw cycles are common.
Restoration Brothers Brentwood provide other benefits. A strong, well-designed cap will prevent birds and animals from entering and nesting in the chimney. Caps also function as spark arrestors, preventing sparks from landing on the roof or other nearby combustible material.
A chimney cap should be easily removable to facilitate inspection and cleaning. For a long and effective service lifetime, a cap should be constructed of sturdy, durable and corrosion resistant material. Caps may be designed to cover a single flue, multiple flues, a large portion of the chimney or the entire chimney top. A full coverage chimney cap usually represents a larger initial investment. However, it is probably the best investment for long-term protection because of its ability to protect the entire chimney crown.
Repair or Replace a Damaged Chimney Crown
The chimney crown (also referred to as the chimney wash) is the top element of a masonry chimney. It covers and seals the top of the chimney from the flue liner to the chimney edge. The crown should provide a downward slope that will direct the water from the flue to the edge of the crown. The overhanging drip edge, by directing the run-off from the crown away from the chimney, helps prevent erosion of the brick and mortar in the chimney's vertical surfaces.
Most masonry chimneys are built with an inadequate crown constructed from common mortar mix that will crack, chip, or deteriorate from weather exposure. A proper chimney crown should be constructed of a Portland cement-based mixture and cast or formed so it provides an overhang projecting beyond all sides of the chimney by a minimum of two inches. The flue liner tile should also project above the crown a minimum of two inches.
    Repair Deteriorated Mortar Joints

    Repair or Replace Flashing
Flashing is the seal between the roofing material and the chimney. Flashing prevents rainwater or snow melt from running down the chimney into living spaces where it can damage ceilings and walls and cause rot in rafters. The flashing is the expansion joint between two dissimilar materials. It is designed to allow both the roof and the chimney to expand and contract at their own rates without breaking the waterproof seal in either area.
Install a Cricket to Stop or Prevent Leaks
If the chimney is located on the low side of the roof where water run-off is directed against the chimney, the installation of a cricket will afford additional protection against water leaking into the home. A cricket is a water deflector that serves to direct rainwater away from the chimney. Crickets are recommended on chimneys more than 30-inches wide and they are especially important on steep roofs.
    Waterproof Your Chimney
Most masonry materials are porous and will absorb large amounts of water. Common brick is like a sponge, absorbing water and wicking moisture to the chimney interior. Defective mortar joints or the use of improper mortar or brick can greatly increase the tendency to absorb and convey water to the interior of the masonry chimney.
Several products have been developed specifically for use as waterproofing agents on masonry chimneys. These formulas are 100% vapor permeable, which means that they allow the chimney to breathe. Therefore, water that has penetrated and the vapors produced when the chimney dries out or the water vapors produced during use are allowed to escape, while the waterproofing agent prevents water from entering from the outside. These products usually have a five- to ten-year warranty. Paint or clear sealers should never be used as a waterproofing agent because they will trap water vapors and moisture inside the chimney causing further deterioration.
Waterproofing is a preventive measure. When damage or deterioration (gaps, voids, cracks, missing mortar, etc.) already exists in a masonry structure, the chimney should be repaired before the waterproofing agent is applied. The chimney exterior may also need to be cleaned before the waterproofing material is applied.
